Varsity Places 7th at the Clash of the Titans

Dear fans,

Our first week of competition started off with the JV winning two out of three dual meets to start off the year 2-1 while the varsity placed a program best 6 wrestlers to place 7th as a team (our highest finish ever) at the always tough Clash of the Titans at University Orange City.

Last Wednesday the JV took to the mats for the first time this season:

• Hagerty 48 Lyman 25
  • Pins from Tyler McVay, Demarco Diaz, Nick Hart, Oliver Hart, Matt Medla, Evan Wright, Gus Hussein, and Christian Gomez all contributed to the win.
• Hagerty 51 Lake Mary 30
  • Nick Hart, Oliver Hart, Ethan Enot, Evan Wright, Christian Gomez, and Nik Wiggins all won via pin for the Huskies. Demarco Diaz won 7-5 OT thriller and Brandon Boyle earned a 17-7 major decision.
• Winter Springs 45 Hagerty 36
  • Demarco Diaz, Oliver Hart, Chris Soto, Matt Medla, and Evan Wright all won their matches by pin. Tyler McVay picked up a forfeit

On Saturday, both the JV and varsity traveled to University (Orange City) High School to compete in the Clash of the Titans Tournament. Links to the results:

The team finished 7th in the 16 team field, which including great performances by freshmen Tyler McVay (4th) and Brandon Boyle (5th) who both placed in their first ever varsity tournament. Great job guys!

This Week at a Glance:

Wednesday (12.10.14): JV Quad v. Deland & Cypress Creek (HOME)

• Matches will start at 5:00 PM

Friday (12.12.14): PARENT NIGHT followed by EVENING PRACTICE (7:00-9:00 PM)

• We need to set up the gym for our tournament on Saturday. Due to a home basketball game, we will not be able to get into the gym and set-up until after the varsity game is complete.
• Please plan on attending our parent night from 6:00-6:30 PM and leaving your wrestler with us to practice (7:00-9:00 PM) and set up the gym from 9:00-10 PM).

Saturday (12.14.14): 4th Annual Johnny Rouse Invitational (HOME)

• All wrestlers report to the Wrestling Room by 7:00 am
• 8:00 am:Weigh-ins
• 9:00 am: Round 1 begins
• 3:00 pm (approximate): Placement rounds

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Become a volunteer!

Concession Stand: If you are able to help in the Concession Stand during the tournament, we need 2 volunteers to work for 2 hours at a time:

• 9:00-11:00 am
• 11:00 am-1:00 pm
• 1:00 pm-3:00 pm
• 3:00 pm-5:00 pm

If/when your wrestler is competing during your shift we will find someone to cover for you until they finish wrestling. Please email me at cabalid@myscps.us to sign up for a shift.

Hospitality Room

Ana Larison will be contacting you sometime this week to ask for your help with the hospitality room for coaches and officials. Please consider donating/cooking items for this Saturday.

Thank you all for your continued support. Our team has shown flashes of promise this week but also showed that we still have some work to do. We always strive to be better than yesterday.
