Fans,
FINALLY, after a long, extended season, the “REAL” wrestling season is upon us! We are honored to be given the opportunity to host the Class 3A District 3 Tournament for the second year in a row.
On Friday, Feb. 27th we will set up the gym immediately after school in preparation for the District Tournament. Following the set-up of the gym we will have a short practice. Set-up should not take more than 1 hour, and practice will end at 5:00 PM.
Saturday, Feb. 28th: District Tournament:
Schedule:
7:00 AM: Wrestlers report for weight-check and final gym-setup
8:00 AM: Weigh-ins
10:00 AM: Round 1
Thank you so much to Dale Di Bernardo, Ken Larison, and Curtis Duren for their help with the administration of the tournament. As much as I’d like to think of myself as being technologically proficient, those old dogs learned some new tricks and their knowledge of trackwrestling.com and running the logistical side of the tournament is above and beyond what I could manage. Also Ana Larison and Tammy Di Bernardo’s help with coordinating the Concession Stand & Hospitality Room has been HUGE! Mrs. Larison has been shaking the bushes and wrangling free items from local businesses in an effort to keep the coaches fat and happy. To all of you who have volunteered your time to work in concession or in the hospitality room, THANK YOU!
If this is your wrestler’s first district tournament, here are the basics:
There are ten teams in our district:
- Hagerty
- Deland
- Lake Brantley
- Lake Howell
- Lake Mary
- Lyman
- Oviedo
- Seminole
- University (Orange City)
- Winter Springs
This tournament is a double-elimination, individually bracketed tournament similar to the Clash of the Titans, Bill Scott Memorial, Michael P. Hutchins Tournament, and the Flagler Rotary Invitational.
The top four wrestlers (1st-4th) in each weight class advance to next week’s Regional Tournament.
Our team earns points based on how our wrestlers do:
- 2 team advancement points shall be scored for each match won in the championship bracket, except for the final first-place match. If a wrestler receives a bye in a round where at least one match is wrestled, he shall be awarded 2 advancement points for that bye if he wins his next match after the bye.
- 1 team advancement point shall be scored for each match won in the consolation elimination, except for the final third and fifth place matches. A wrestler who has received a bye in a consolation round where at least one match is wrestled shall receive one advancement point for that bye if he wins his next match after the bye.
- 2 additional points for each match won by default, disqualification, fall, or forfeit.
- 1 1/2 points for each match won by technical fall.
- 1 additional point for each match won by major decision.
Team placement points (tournament scoring 4 places):
- 1st place 14 team points
- 2nd place 10 team points
- 3rd place 7 team points
- 4th place 4 team points
If your wrestler qualifies for the Regional Tournament:
The team will stay at Quality Inn Orange City 445 S Volusia Ave, Orange City, FL 32763 Friday night.
We will leave Hagerty Friday morning on March 6th at 7:30 AM. Any wrestler who qualifies for the Regional tournament will be labeled as being on a “field trip” for the day. This is an excused absence.
