Saturday December 2, 2017 – The Huskies opened the season at University (Orange City) where they competed in the 2017 Clash of the Titans. The team finished in 4th place overall lead by tournament champions Ryan Rowland (Jr.), Bo Perkins (So.), and Marcus Patrick (Fr.). #1 seed Ryan Rowland dominated the 106 lb. bracket with three bonus point wins in three matches, pinning DJ Perez (West Orange) followed by back to back major decision in the semifinals and finals over Erick Rocher (Freedom) by a score of 12-0 and Caleb DesRoches (Winter Springs) by a score of 15-3. At 132 lbs. Marcus Patrick was seeded #3 behind Lake Highland’s Vincent Menozzi (#1) and Amstrong Lubin (#3) of Freedom. Patrick upset Lubin in the semifinals 1-0 to advance to the finals where he pinned Menozzi in the third period to win the tournament. Unseeded at 152 lbs., Bo Perkins finished the tournament 4-0 with two pins. Perkins opened the tournament with a pin over Josh Satterlee (Lake Brantly), before upsetting #1 seed Cameron Monzadeh of Lake Highland Prep. with an 8-7 decision. Bo went on to pin the #4 seed Mike Esler (Winter Springs) in the semi-finals to advance to the finals where he beat #2 Curtis Brock of Flagler Palm Coast by decision 8-6. #2 seed Dylan Kohn also made the finals, winning by pin in the quarter finals and by an 8-6 decision against Christian Sheppard of Flagler Palm Coast in the semifinals. Kohn took his first loss of the season to defending state champion Nic Bouzakis in the finals.
Other place winners were: 132 lbs. Brandon Boyle beat Preston Barber (West Orange) in the 5th place match. Mason Perkins pinned Kyle Bott of Winter Springs to place 3rd at 160 lbs. At 195 lbs. Matt Kaplan placed 4th while Nick Walker finished his first varsity tournament in 6th place.
On December 1st, 2017, Hagerty’s JV and Girl wrestling teams competed in the 2017 JV/Girls Clash of the Titans. In their first action of the season, the boys placed 4th and finished the tournament with a champion and 12 total place winners. Garet LaGrange won his bracket and was the 170 lbs. Champion. Other place winner were: 106 lbs. Connor Messenger (3rd)/Mikey Basilo (6th), 113 lbs. Nathan Stewart (3rd)/Mark Moberg (6th), 120 lbs. Brody Ruff (2nd), 126 lbs. Harrison Messenger (3rd), 132 lbs. Alberto Zumaeta (3rd), 138 lbs. Jacob Pike (5th), 152 lbs. Justice Weaver (6th), 160 lbs. Ethan Lopez (2nd), 182 lbs. Jacob Maldonado (4th)
In the Girls tournament, Catherine Patrick placed 5th at 120 lbs. Amanda Nowak and Faith Marino wrestled well in their first competitions.
