Four Huskies Place at the Knockout

December 30, 2017 – Hagerty traveled to Osceola High School to compete in the 2017 Knockout Christmas Classic. The Knockout has become the toughest tournament in the south and featured state championship teams from Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. There were fourteen state champions and 114 state qualifiers and placer winners competing in the two day tournament.

#4 seed at 122 lbs. Dylan Kohn wrestled to s 3rd place finish. Kohn opened the tournament with a couple of pins before losing a 3-1 decision to Albie Snedaker of Fleming Island in the quarterfinals. Dylan would battle back on day two. He pinned Ervin Bryant of Miami Southridge followed by decisions over Osceola’s Josue Calderon and Springstead’s Tommy McCane to advance to the consolation finals. Kohn won by decision over Snedaker in a rematch from the quarterfinals.

Devin Kohn (seeded #5) placed 5th in the 147 lb. weight class. Devin also started the tournament off with a pair of bonus point wins to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinal Kohn would face off against #4 seed Frankie Tal Shahar of American Heritage (Delray Beach). Kohn would lose the match in overtime, but would wrestle back on day two. Kohn finished the tournament 5-2 and in fifth place. In his 5th place match he would win by pin over David Hornsby of Brookwood.

#11 seed Bo Perkins found himself in arguably the toughest weight class in the tournament. the 152 lb. class included four state champions, and three nationally ranked wrestlers. Perkins started the tournament with a 5-1 decision over Joseph Cusick (Bishop Kenny) followed by a pin of Chris Williams (Jensen Beach). Perkins took his first loss of the tournament in the quarterfinals against defending state champion Jacob Conrad of Carrollwood Day School. Bo battled back with a pair of decisions wins against William Vincent (Camden) and Angelo Garcia (Potomac). Perkins finished the day 4-3 and in 6th place.

Justin Segarra was the #7 seed of the tournament. He started the tournament with a pair of bonus point wins: A pin over Nick Ramsayer (South Forsyth) followed by a 15-5 major decision of Andy Hernandez (Riverview). After a loss in the quarterfinals to #2 seed Paul Detwiler of Fleming Island, Segarra tallied off three straight victories: Lane Blackburn (North Gwinnett) by pin, Michael Fernandez (Southwest Miami( by decision 4-2, and pin over #4 seed Jack Sopotnik (Jensen Beach). Justin finished in 4th place after a loss to #3 seed Justin Grant (Lincoln) in the consolation finals.

Hagerty finished the tournament in 7th place.
